Virtual Tours

What is a Virtual Tour?

Put simply, a virtual tour is a tool which allows you to see the whole of an area - literally all around and from floor to ceiling (or sky!). Sometimes a flat image cannot do a space justice, or make it clear how the space 'functions'. By using a virtual tour, you allow your audience to effectively 'walk around' the space - be it a new building, a hotel, a garden, a gallery or even a bar! The viewer is able to choose what he or she looks at, and zoom in and look at the features which specifically interest them.

Getting Started

Take a demo virtual tour. This virtual tour will get you acquainted with navigation and will introduce the features of a full screen, high-resolution panorama.

High and Low resolution Virtual Tours - what's the difference?

High-resolution, full screen panoramas offer the best virtual tour viewing experience. They're ideal for a high-impact presentation of a space. The best plugin for viewing full screen is Apple QuickTime. Full screen panoramas can also be displayed in Shockwave but there is a deterioration in quality. Panoramas are typically 1 to 3 megabytes in size.

Low-resolution, small screen panoramas are ideal if a large number of tours are required. They are best viewed in Quicktime but can also be viewed in Flash, Java and shockwave. Low-resolution panoramas are typically 75 KB to 500 KB.

Tour Options

Our virtual tours can include audio sound tracks, interactive hot spots, interactive map, information points, links to external websites and pop-up images. Please feel free to contact us if you have any non-standard requirements.

File formats and plugins

Below is a list of all of the different mainstream formats in which we supply virtual tours. Each has a link to a demo of a virtual tour, so you can assess how tours work in differnet formats and with different plugins.

Apple - QuickTime

If you don't already have the QuickTime plug-in, you can download it, free of charge, from Apple Computer. It takes just a few minutes to download it onto your hard disk and install it. From then on, it will open automatically whenever you access QuickTime movies or QuickTime VRs, wherever you are on the Web. QuickTime software is available for Windows OS and for Macintosh OS.
